In addition to her work within the school district, Arleen was a dedicated part-time clerk at the Maquoketa Public Library for the last four years. Most recently, she provided invaluable support at Maquoketa High School, taking attendance, assisting with online classes, and offering library support from the 2018/2019 school year until her passing. Arleen then transitioned to Maquoketa Middle School, where she worked from 2013/2014 through the 2018/2019 school year. She began her career at Cardinal Elementary, where she served from 2004 to the 2012/2013 school year. Arleen’s education laid the foundation for her lifelong love of learning and her dedication to helping others.įor the past 20 years, Arleen worked as a paraeducator for the Maquoketa Community School District. She then moved to Chula Vista, California, and graduated from Castle Rock High School in 1978. Born on January 8, 1961, in San Diego, California, Arleen was a cherished wife, mother, sister, and aunt who left a lasting impact on everyone she met.Īrleen spent her early years in Guam, where she attended Notre Dame Catholic High School until 1977. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 9:15 A.M. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thomas on December 26, 2010, and a sister Margaret McCarthy.Ī celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, June 3, 2023, at First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. Those left to honor her memory include her children, Robert “Bob” (Jodene) Berggren of Maquoketa, IA, Carol (Robert) Nolin of Las Vegas, NV, Kathie (Greg) Richardson of North Liberty, IA, and Todd (Lisa) Berggren of East Dubuque, IA sister, Mary Rote of Keiler, WI brother, Richard “Dick” (Denyse) Walker of Bettendorf, IA brother-in-law, Joe McCarthy of Maquoketa, IA and 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She enjoyed golfing, sewing, crocheting, and jigsaw puzzles. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. Joyce was a housewife and mother to four children. Four children were born to this union, Robert, Carol, Kathie, and Todd. “Tommy” Berggren on Novemin Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Joyce LaVonne Walker was born on Jin Cascade, Iowa, to David and Eulaine (Flagel) Walker.
